Let’s put on our rose colored glasses for a moment and talk about the best of these times. What qualities can we distill that may help us survive and thrive into the future? Can we return to a time when our word and handshake really counted for something?
I remember when the strength of a community lay in each of our hands coming together to help each other. Your knowledge supplementing my lack, my skills adding to your strengths. When Victory Gardens and Barn Raising’s were common occurrences. Our positive work ethic was rewarded by copious banquets and joyful music and dance.
Through the ages the most important lessons and mans greatest qualities were past on by story tellers , bards and musicians. Stories recited or sung were chosen for the elements which would influence the formation of desirable character qualities, behavior patterns and work ethics. Since a young child unconsciously imitates the story characters he loves and admires, they will give him good patterns to follow.
The greatest value is in preventing undesirable behavior habits before they develop during the early and impressionable years of the child. Through these stories he or she will see the cause and effect of certain types of behaviors.
Our hope is that The Adventures of Sliverbritches will help furnish a child with good and exciting patterns to imitate. We might also be able to teach sustainability and personal accountability to our children.
